October 13 Hold them accountable! If you are anything like me, you are likely very skeptical of anything your elected officials tell you regardless of their party. Disclaimer: I am a conservative and that is how I vote. I am not loyal to a party just for the sake of supporting a political party. For a gage on my political views, I would say that George Bush is liberal compared to me. If this bothers you, then you may not want to read any further. I am very discouraged with our political system in America. We are stuck with a two party system that has galvanized Americans so much that you have to be extreme one side or extreme opposite. The old definition of being conservative meant that a person opposed public dollars being used for social programs. To be liberal meant that a person approved of spending public dollars on social programs. The problem with this general statement is that social programs are often not intended to help but make a person dependent on that political figure or party guaranteeing their vote on the next election. Most of these social programs are designed to give just enough help to get the person dependent on them but never really address the real problems. Historically I have supported candidates that stood for biblical issues. The reason for this is that I believe the Bible is the Word of God. I do not advocate forcing the Bible on anyone but I do advocate protecting the Bible and its teachings since this country was founded on biblical values. This is an undisputable fact despite many attempts to erase that fact. To me there are many issues that I cannot support period. One of these is to support anyone that supports abortion. The statement that it is a woman's body and her decision is not true. It is the baby's body that is being destroyed, not the mother. It is amazing that candidates on the Democratic side are not afraid to stand for their beliefs even though they are depraved in some cases. These candidates make a stand on advocating homosexuality and abortion with no shame. On the other side, the so called conservative Republicans will never address the issues head on. They are too afraid to take on a left wing liberal media. I am not saying it is acceptable to condemn those who have engaged in homosexuality or abortion because those sins are no worse than my own. I believe anyone can be forgiven if they repent. I do have a problem with political figures openly advocating these sins just as much as I would have a problem if they were publicly endorsing extortion. The Democrats in my opinion have lost their marbles on morality. They have gone so far off a cliff that it is difficult to measure. Their stand on ending the war at all costs and trying to paint it as another Vietnam are troubling. They hate George Bush so bad that they want America to get out before job is done guaranteeing defeat just to point the finger at Bush. It is shameful at the very least. These people have gone over the deep end. If they get their way, it will be exactly like Vietnam. On the other hand the Republicans have ducked the issues completely. They have no backbone at all. People who stand for right and wrong are left with no one to support in the political arena. The Republicans have been a disappointment ever since 1994 when they took control of Congress. They have not stood for the issues that people voted for. This Republican versus Democrat argument has become a one party system because Republicans will not stand against the outrageous stand of the Democrats. The Democrats like to say the religious right has control of the Republican party and the Republicans in true fashion avoid conflict and betray the very people that got them elected. Unlike Democrats, most Republicans will not stand by their candidate if he or she betrays them. They will throw them out of office. Democrats would vote for Adolph Hitler if he was a Democrat. This may seem a bit extreme to say but I know many Christian individuals that support Democrat candidates that adamantly oppose Christian views. I use to vote for Republicans because I used the excuse that if I did not vote for them, then I was allowing the worse candidate in there. That may be true in the short term. I have changed my views on this and now will not support a candidate that supports issues that I disagree with. I will no longer support the least of the two evils. This may be exacerbating the problem by allowing the other "worse" candidate to be elected in the short term but over the long haul candidates will learn what is expected. I think it is time to make these people understand that we voted for them and they need to stand for their constituents. They should not expect our votes thinking we will not vote the other way. We do not have to vote the other way but we do not have to vote at all allowing the other person to win teaching them a lesson. If it is conservatives electing them, then conservatives should have their loyalty. I think it is a stand worth taking. The Democrats know their constituents will vote for them regardless of their loyalty. I do not think either side should expect a vote simply because of their political party. Lets hold these people accountable and let them know there is a price to be paid if they betray their constituency. Maybe we will get some honest people in office. I speak on behalf of that group, "the religious right" when I say do not give them your vote, if they will not stand for what is right. If this means the other side wins, then so be it. This war cannot be won unless our leaders understand their responsibility. They need to know that if they do not stand for their constituency, then they are gone. Again, I am not a Republican but rather a conservative. I only address holding Republicans accountable because they are the best chance of getting results since they are not as far gone as the Democrats are. These candidates need to fear the voters more than they fear the left wing media. They have been a huge disappointment but so far, they try to speak the right thing in secret places. We need them to stand on a mountain top and yell these issues like the Democrats do. Most of you remember Bill Clinton was on every news paper, television show, and magazines 365 days a year and shouted with authority how the Republicans are evil and the media just went right along as they always do. We need a Republican that has the guts to say what he or she means and follow through. These candidates that say the right thing during the primary season and then turn liberal after the election need to be thrown out of office in a hurry. They do not deserve our blind support. The American voters should expect loyalty from their elected officials. They should not expect our vote. That is how I feel. The reason I posted this article was because I was inspired while listening to Focus on the Family October 12, 2007 on KJTH radio. On this program Dr. James Dobson took an unapologetic stand on his stand for political candidates on moral issues. I very much admired him for that stand. It inspired me to post this opinion piece and I hope it was not too offensive.
